Like anything in life, practice makes... if not perfection, then improvement. That is what I try to do when practicing positive thinking. It is definitely not easy. When things go south, it is easy to think negatively. Often those thoughts seem to invite the next unfortunate occurance, and so on and so forth. It can become a kind of roller-coaster that can feel out of control.
Taking a step back from our life and its circumstances is not a bad idea. Maybe looking up at the night sky and watching the stars and the mysterious moon can help clear our minds from what can ultimately be petty and in the grand scheme of things, not particularly important. Of course our lives and what is in them is important to us. Of course. But we are just one of millions and for as bad as our lives may be, there are many more who are worse off - much worse off. I often complain about my struggles, but then I think about how incredibly lucky and blessed I am to have the wonderful support and benefits I do have.
Keeping thoughts positive every day requires a conscious choice to do so. We choose our thoughts - we choose what we will fill our minds with. We can therefore make ourselves feel better immediately. What a relief that is!
